Submitted by Angie on Wed, 03/03/2010 – 21:26.br Congratulations on your pregnancy! What wonderful news! With no changes in diet or other modifications, a lot of women will eventually get pregnant. So you didn’t say how long you were drink chai, but it probably isn’t related. See, in a given month, even if all factors are ideal, a woman only stands a 25% chance of getting pregnant. So it can easily take a year to get pregnant even if nothing is wrong. (Of course, you don’t have to wait that long to see a doctor). Back to the question, though. Chai tea lattes are drinks made from black tea infused with at least one of the following spices: cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom and star anise. The tea is then added to fresh milk and sometimes ice to make a latte. Starbucks chai teas average about 75 mg of caffeine. The problem is that different chai teas contain different ingredients. If you want to try it, buy a flavor with no caffeine. Herbal Infusions offers a fertility tea you might like to try called Baby Boom, with Peppermint, ginger, rosehip, spearmint, osmanthus petals, rose petals, rooibos, chaste tree berry, red raspberry leaf, ladies mantle, and red clover. http://www.herbalinfusions.ca/store/all-tea/baby-boom-herbal-fertility-t…

Submitted by Athena on Wed, 03/03/2010 – 23:30. It’s actually chia as in the seeds from the plant that used to be on chia pets. Not chai tea. Chia seeds are experiencing somewhat of a resurrection I guess. Used to be a staple food of the ancient Aztecs. They are still known as “the running food” by the Tarahumara Indians in Copper Canyon. They can run for days eating nothing but chia. There is a woman on the east coast who has her doctorate in botany who has been studying chia for nine years. Her website is chiativity.org. Anyway, my husband and I tried for 5 years to get pregnent. The last 2 years with IVF. 3 fresh cycles and 11 frozen cycles. I have been drinking the chia for 6 months. I read about in the book “Born to Run”. Maybe it has nothing to do with our finally getting pregnant but I thought I’d ask if anyone else has had a similar experience. If nothing else, it’s good for you! Thanks for your time.:) All the best to you.

Submitted by Angie on Thu, 03/04/2010 – 06:55. Oops – thanks for the clarification. Here is some more info on Chia-first of all – these are things in Chia pets! (I had no idea! Except don’t eat these, they aren’t meant to be eaten.) Dr. Oz even says, “The truth is, chia seeds are actually good for you — we’re talking really good for you! In fact, they just may be one of the healthiest things around.” hhhhr

Chia seeds have been consumed by Native Americans, Mayans & Aztecs & are widely available in health food stores. They are very high in Omega 3 oils, approx. 20% protein (complete with all amino acids), B vitamins, calcium & other minerals, antioxidants. They absorb more than 9x their weight in water, forming a gel which slows down their digestion & thus, are low glycemic, lower cholesterol & high in soluble fiber so good for constipation as well as preventing colon cancer. You only need 1tsp-1Tb/day added to cereal, oatmeal, smoothies, yogurt, or juices. Gel soaked in glass of water for 1/2 hr can be added to sauces as thickener. In terms of fertility, I don’t know. I couldn’t find any hard science to back it up, but I did find several people who claimed it was helpful. The good news – it’s relatively inexpensive and it sounds like soemthing we should all consider adding to our diets anyway!

Submitted by Athena on Thu, 03/04/2010 – 10:44. I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that feels it helped. There are a lot of sites that tell you how to make it, but, I found it very difficult to find the seperate ingredients. I aquired mine from http://www.chiastuff.com I received it with free delivery and all you do is add water or any juice. the research is overwelming on the health benefits, as you say, but, the bottom line is, I am pregnant after more than a year of trying and the only thing different is, I added Chia to my diet! We are thrilled with an initial HCG of 195. Best of luck to everyone. Keep trying. You never know?
