not ovulating, tried clomid 100mg but did not ovulate. doc said i have PCOS factors and wants me to see a fertility specialist and p[ossibly try injectibles. what are my options at this point? can a second round of clomid help? how about Metformin? thanks

About 75% of women with

About 75% of women with infertility and PCOS ovulate with clomiphene, but only about 40% will get pregnant with it. In other words, although most women with PCOS ovulate with clomiphene, only about half of those that do ovulate will be able to get pregnant with it. One round of Clomid isn’t a lot of information to go by, but I am guessing your OB/GYN doesn’t want to keep monitoring your cycles and wants to push you up the ladder of care. Ask if he or she is willing to try another few months of care (unless your insurance covers a fertility doctor, then it’s irrelevant). Absolutely – the research is still encouraging toward metformin as a good addition to Clomid for women with PCOS – but it doesn’t work for everyone. (I’m biased here – Clomid failed with me, but did wonderfully with a medication similar to Met.) I think it is possible you still have less expensive, less invasive options before moving on to the shots. Best, Angie
