at exactly 8 weeks my hcg level was 218,175 - withing the "normal" range, but on the very high end. i learned through u/s that it is just one baby. i am worried sick about down syndrome. are these levels indicative of downs?

Women who have high levels of HCG may have an increased risk for having a baby with Down's Syndrome. If high levels are detected, the doctor may perform an amniocentesis or CVS to test whether or not you are carrying a baby with Down's Syndrome. Down’s Syndrome isn’t common and high levels can still be normal. As hard as it is, it’s something time will tell. A good ultrasound is great news by the way, of the odds for a happy, healthy baby!
