Hi Sonya, The good news is
Hi Sonya,
The good news is that IVF is often an excellent choice for women with blocked fallopian tubes. Many, many women with blocked tubes have gone on to have healthy pregnancies once those tubes get bypassed.
While age is indeed a factor, not all 40 year old women are alike. There are plenty of factors involved: do you smoke or drink? Are you at a healthy weight? Do you have regular cycles? Are you ovulating? Have you had a hormone panel done? Have you been screened for any STD's?
So-I would absolutely say not to give up hope - that pursuing IVF may be a wonderful decision for you.
I would say, however, that time is of the essence and you need to see a fertility specialist sooner than later. Keep in mind to choose a fertility doc carefully. Some will refuse to take a 40 year old woman who won't do donor eggs because it will not reflect well on their statistics. For more information on doctors who cherry pick their patients, check out the book, "Budgeting for Infertility."
