"There are three kinds of
"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics."
The original author of the quote wasn;t talking about fertility clinics, but he might as well have been.
The biggest question is unpacking what the statistic means. Frankly, a flat rate of 45% is meaningless.
The number you want to know is the success rate for take-home babies for women in your age group who have the same condition you do.
See - if you're 45, it doesn't really matter what the success rate is for a 30 year old at the clinic. The same goes for donor eggs or frozen embryo transfer. You want to know what the take home baby rates are for people undergoing the same procedure. Remember - take home baby rate is not the same as pregnancy rate.
Plus, you need to know if the clinic cherry picks their clients. Do they accept everyone, or do they pick and choose their clients to ensure they get ones likely to respond well? After all, that affects their success rates as well.
Success rates are tricky, and for my information, check out the chapter on comparing clinics in "Budgeting for Infertility: Bring Home Baby without Breaking the Bank."
