The average sperm count today
The average sperm count today is around 60 million per milliliter.
Sperm counts can be low for a variety of reasons, ranging from obesity, smoking, overheated testicles, stress and alcohol. Deficiencies in certain nutrients, such as vitamin C, selenium, zinc, and folate, may be particular risk factors for low sperm count in such cases.
The WHO defines normal motility as 60% of observed sperm, or at least 8 million per millilitre, showing good forward movement.
