Bereaved moms find a way to celebrate their day

Mother’s Day can be a difficult holiday for women who ache to be a mother but are having trouble realizing the dream. It is even harder for women who have had miscarriages or stillbirths.

In the Gainesville Times there is a story about Angela Ewers who wasn’t certain she should celebrate the holiday after the stillbirth of her daughter Emily and two other miscarriages. “In my mind I always thought that Mother’s Day was an event that was celebrated from children celebrating their mom,” Ewers said. “So with my child not being here, was I still a mom or was I to be celebrated as a person who carried life inside of me?”

Ewers wants to inspire others to acknowledge their loss and perhaps help them find closure with a special ceremony on Mother’s Day. Her nonprofit, Rock Goodbye Angel;, will hold a balloon release this weekend to help bereaved families through their grieving process during the holiday. “Just because their baby is not with them does not strip them of (the) title of being that baby’s mom or dad or grandparent or sibling or family member,” Ewers noted. “This is a healthy alternative to create a tradition for people to always come back and remember their angel babies.”

“We don’t want it to be something sad,” she said. “We want to celebrate these little lives and how significant they are even though they were only here for a very short period of time.”
