Fertility website for cancer patients

manny mo and jack

The first ever comprehensive website to answer questions about fertility preservation before, during and after cancer treatment has been launched. And it’s bilingual.

The site is geared toward young adults and the parents of children diagnosed with cancer. For many of these families there is so much to consider when dealing with a life threatening disease that the long term effects, particularly fertility when children are the patients, are often overlooked or not considered thoroughly. This website should address that problem in a comprehensive way and aid physicians in answering the many questions these families have.

The Hormone Foundation, a public education arm of The Endocrine Society, along with the Oncofertility Consortium at Northwestern University developed and released SaveMyFertility.com. This multi media presentation of materials is meant to address every concern and question about available means to protect fertility for anyone going through cancer treatment.

“Deciding how best to protect an adult or child’s fertility should be part of every physician’s discussion with a newly diagnosed young cancer patient,” said Teresa Woodruff, PhD, director of the Oncofertility Consortium. “We created SaveMyFertility to help patients and their physicians have this vitally important discussion and to provide information tools about fertility preservation.”

Statistics show 140,000 people under 45 are diagnosed with cancer. Many survive, but their fertility has been sacrificed. Whether male or female there are many ways to increase chances of maintaining fertility. This website should have the most up to date information.
