Ipods get fertile

The well known family planning tool called CycleBeads is now available in an app for use with iPhone, iPod touch or iPad applications. That makes CycleBeads the first application for fertility assistance which can be used on these interactive devices. Welcome iCycleBeads!

To use the app, a woman enters into it the start date of her most recent menstrual cycle and some easy to find historical data on her cycle in general. Once activated, iCycle Beads shows her where she is in her cycle and whether or not she is currently fertile.

The app mimics the actual beads using colors to help identify those days. A calendar view is an option. The woman can receive alerts that notify her when she is in the fertile window, or on a day when getting pregnant is not likely, also on a day when she can anticipate her period starting. Alerts can also be set up to help her remember to enter new data.

“Electronic devices like iPhones are increasingly popular and we see this technology as an important new way to reach women. We think that iCycleBeads will appeal to any woman who is interested in effectively and easily managing her fertility and uses a compatible mobile digital device,” said Victoria Jennings, director of the Institute for Reproductive Health, the group that developed CycleBeads, and professor of obstetrics.
