Treatment options for Female Infertility

The evaluation and treatment of female infertility requires a great deal of time and efforts. Hopefully over the last few years fertility specialist have made great progress on diagnosing and treating infertility in females. Surgery and hormone therapy can correct some infertility problems. In case of those method’s failure to correct the problem, doctors and specialist now resort to more advanced and effective procedures, collectively known as Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). This technology combines the use of fertility drugs and hormonal therapy along with artificial insemination using any of a group of techniques: intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT), zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT), or oocyte (egg) donation. ART techniques generally start with stimulating the ovaries to increase egg production. After stimulation, the physician surgically extracts one or more eggs from the ovary, and unites them with sperm in a laboratory to produce one or more embryos. Fertilization takes place outside the body, and the fertilized egg is reinserted into the woman’s reproductive tract, in a procedure called embryo transfer. Acupuncture, tuboplasty, assisted hatching, PGD and some others represent other successful medical technique for treating female infertility.
