If you are considering IVF treatment, your clinic may offer some sort of package or special deal.

Not all patients are candidates for these types of special deals. Typically, these programs are looking for patients with a high chance of success. Any of the following characteristics could disqualify you from the program: age; previously unsuccessful IVF attempts; smoking; BMI level; increased FSH; miscarriages; or severe male factor infertility.

And special deal pricing doesn’t usually cover everything. Clinics may charge extra for things like donor eggs, donor sperm, ultrasounds, medications, monitoring, PGD, ICSI, and embryo freezing.

How do I know if I should consider a special deal at my clinic?

For those patients who fall into the “higher success” category of being under 35 and in good health with no previous unsuccessful attempts at IVF, check to see if your clinic offers one of these types of special deals. Crunch the numbers and see if this might save you some money as opposed to paying for a couple of cycles individually. But, know the risks.

Read the fine print and ask lots of questions about exactly what is covered, if there are any restrictions, and what types of other additional costs will incurred.

Even if different clinics call the program by the same name, the specifics of these types of programs vary widely so it always smart to ask and make sure you understand all of the details.
