IUI and its Prospects for Infertility
Submitted by Joan on Thu 01/29/2009 - 08:11
When a couple wants to conceive and are unable to conceive naturally, assisted fertility called intrauterine insemination is a popular method used by medical professionals. IUI gave hope to millions of couples who are unable to conceive. With this method, the sperm is surgically injected into the egg. This method is particularly helpful when the cervical mucus of the woman is unable to receive the sperm, when the male has antibodies that prevent the transfer of the sperm, when the male is unable to ejaculate the sperm and in the cases of unexplained infertility. During the process of IUI, the sperm is removed from the seminal fluid and injected into the egg in the fallopian tube. The procedure is done during the fertile period when the egg is in the fallopian tube. The procedure has a success rate of 50%. The risk of the IUI procedure is multiple births.
