Is egg donation all that helpful?
Submitted by my on Fri 01/23/2009
Most of us know that egg donation is already an option for infertile couples. Good thing there are fertile couples who are willing to undergo this procedure just to help those who are having problems in conceiving a child. However, these people should be made aware of the possible risks that come with this procedure. And I am not talking about physiologic complications here.
A very new study which came out just this month in the December 2008 issue of Fertility and Sterility said that egg donation may have lasting effects on the donor. These effects, depending on the perception of the woman, may either be positive or negative. Some are proud of having helped a couple, while others wonder what could have happened to the child that was genetically their own.
Therefore, experts advise that women should really think hard when donating their eggs. Don’t just be motivated by the rewards involved in donating, because the lasting psychological effects may haunt you in the long run.
