Ukraine Surrgoacy Nightmare

A French couple needed to have a surrogacy arrangement to build their family. So, they did what any family would do - they hired a surrogate, who gave birth to beautiful and healthy twin girls. Cue music, end of story, right?

Except they wanted to bring those bouncing baby girls back home to France and they encountered a roadblock - because surrogacy is illegal in the Ukraine, too, how exactly to get these two back to France. That’s when, they hid the twins in a chest under a mattress in their car and attempted to smuggle them over the border into Hungary.

Amazingly enough, it didn't work, the couple was arrested
and could face up to seven years in prison if convicted of illegal transportation of children abroad. And the babies, of course, have been taken away.

In France, since 1994 any surrogacy arrangement that is commercial or altruistic is illegal. That means if you have someone who wants to do it for you for free, you can't. Clearly, their own country's strict laws led them to investigate other alternatives. Why exactly they chose another country where surrogacy is illegal is confusing. After all, if the Ukraine wasn't going to issue passports, how in the world were they going to get paperwork in France for these two babies that just appeared - that is, once they mastered smuggling twins out of the country?

The lesson to be learned here is clear. DO your homework, do your homework, do your homework.
