In vitro fertilization – is it successful?

You have probably heard of in vitro fertilization and all the controversies surrounding it. This infertility treatment sure has raised a lot of ethical and moral concerns when it first came out, but since its inception it has been associated with high success rates. Thanks to in vitro fertilization, a lot of formerly infertile couples now have what we call a family.

But because of the high cost of having this procedure done, plus the fact that it does have its risks, the main question asked by every woman who is planning to undergo in vitro fertilization remains to be this: What is the chance that this therapy will be successful and result into a baby?

In general, higher success rates are associated for women who are under the age of 35. Those over 35 experience deterioration in the quality of the eggs they produce, so it becomes less likely for them to conceive. However, this does not mean that they cannot undergo the procedure. They can still try, and there is still a chance for it to result into babies. After all, the overall success rate for in vitro fertilization is as high as 86% in younger women and 42% in women older than forty.
