Gearing Up For Another Round

So the IVF cycle didn’t take this time. How long do you need to wait before getting back in the saddle again, so to speak?

Assuming funds aren’t an issue, it depends on the clinic. Medically, you can usually start up again immediately. Fertility clinics differ a bit in their preferences, but the doctor should perform a blood test and an ultrasound of the ovaries, to see if the ovaries are ready to be stimulated by fertility medications again. This is a chance to check that there are no active follicles or leftover egg sacs growing as a result of the ovarian stimulation drugs. If there are a number of large leftover egg sacs, called cysts, they’ll usually advise the patient to rest the ovaries and not stimulate them that month, and to return with the next menstrual cycle.

Jumping into the next cycle may not be the best move. Are you sure you want to move forward? Do you have a plan as to how much stress you can take -physically, financially and emotionally? If not, create one before you sign up for round #2 or more.
