Some Causes of Infertility

Prior to finding out the causes of infertility, at first let’s see the basics of human reproduction. At first a sperm from male unites with an egg (ovum) from the female, then creates a zygote (that contains DNA from both) which develops into an embryo, then into a fetus, and ultimately a baby is born. If anyhow this sequential process is retarded, infertility will occur. Thus generally for men, the cause of infertility includes the cessation of sperm production or low sperm count, and for women, the cessation of egg release by ovaries, or problems in reproductive organs and hormone release. More specifically factors for male infertility include Pretesticular causes (Drugs, alcohol, smoking, Strenuous riding like bicycle riding, horseback riding), testicular factors (bad semen quality like lack of sperm in semen, etc), etc. Problems retarding women’s fertility include endometriosis or damage to the fallopian tubes, being over- or underweight or her age. Factors that can cause male as well as female infertility are Genetic factors, General factors (Diabetes, hormone related problems like Thyroid disorders, Adrenal disease), Environmental factors ( Toxins such as volatile organic solvents, silicones, chemical dusts, pesticides, etc), Treatment related factors (Chemotherapy and radiation), etc.
