Infertility is a problem shared by nations around the globe

INFERTILITY or the failure of women to conceive a baby is a problem shared by nations around the globe. In fact some experts even went to the extent of saying that there is a so called "infertility time bomb", happening since almost all places in this planet experienced this problem. According to the study made by the Centers for Disease Control some 6.1 million U.S. women between the ages 15 and 44 had trouble conceiving; 2.1 million married couples experienced Infertility and 9.2 million women had made use of infertility services. In the global scale, women in developed countries are having fewer babies, later in life wherein their first babies are usually born after the 25th birthday.

What is scary is the fact that the grim statistics, wherein women had a hard time getting pregnant is felt in all continents from the mainland US to Europe and Asia. In Taiwan alone, the total fertility rate is 1.3 children per woman in 2007, which is very different from their record of six children per woman in 1957. An almost the same data exist in Germany where the child bearing capability of women drastically decreased in years. According to the study common causes of the global infertility problem is physiological and surprisingly lifestyle and career of women.

Many women around the globe does not have the ability to get pregnant since they have some physical defects within themselves that makes it hard for them have a child of their own. However, aside from physical deficiencies, one primary cause of infertility among women is their decision to focus more on their economic and career aspirations. These types of women tend to worked inflexible hours and putting off childbearing until they are in their late thirties and early forties. With their decision to forego childbearing when they are still young result later in infertility since it is very difficult to have a child when women are already old.

To resolve this so called "infertility time bomb", governments around the globe offered infertility treatments to their citizens for them to have a child. The national government of these countries spend millions of dollars just to ensure the infertility problem is addressed. In Israel, fertility services have been provided for both married and single women under the country’s universal health insurance law. This type of government intervention yielded positive results like in UK wherein the mean age for childbirth was 29.3 years in 2007, up from 28.6 years in 2001. While infertility treatments offers good solution to this problem such type of intervention should not be taken as sole solution to the global problem. It is proven that some infertility treatments had adverse effects on women who constantly use it since it sometimes offers health risk especially in twin pregnancies. Infertility treatments are also quite expensive that some smaller nations have a hard time providing subsidy to their own people. With these facts about the bad side of infertility treatments, one simple and safe solution to infertility is not to allow ambition to get ahead of your desire to have a child. If you want to have a child of your own do it when you are still young since getting pregnant for older women is such a difficult and dangerous ordeal.
