Sperm Donor X

If you haven’t heard of Deirdre Fishel, a Brooklyn based independent documentary filmmaker, you will. She recently made a personal film about her process (and that of three other women) to parent solo using donor sperm.
SPERM DONOR X is currently being edited by Academy Award nominee Jim Klein and will be completed in early 2010. The doc looks at the very personal story of the director, as well as three other diverse women, who in making the difficult decision to parent solo are representative of a growing trend in this country. Though all struggle with the decision, the fact is that right now in this country only 6% of children will spend their childhood in a "traditional family," meaning two straight people who marry first, have children and don't separate.

The film is nearly finished, but before she can put it out in the world where it can hopefully be a positive contribution to the changing family paradigm, they need to raise the last bit of money. For this purpose they have put a trailer on line and created the possibility for individuals to donate.
