Pregnancy after infertility- The psychological affect

How does a woman feel after a winning a battle against infertility? One would assume extremely happy almost delirious with joy, right? Wrong, at least in most cases!

The problem is that infertility takes a huge toll on one’s mental make-up. Worry and anxiety become a way of life, so when a woman finally becomes pregnant after months and sometimes years of treatments, she feels too scared to be happy.

Most women suffer from a nagging unexplained fear of losing their baby; they often worry about miscarriages or developing complications in their pregnancy. Moreover the expectations and happiness of friends and family members generally scare them instead of making them happy.

It is therefore extremely important for women to continue with psychological counseling after becoming pregnant (post an infertility treatment). They also need an immense amount of support from their spouse/partner as their fears and anxieties would be best understood by the only person who has shared their pain.
