Lose weight, get a baby

Pregnancy can make women gain lots of unwanted weight. But in the case of obese women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), studies have found that if they lose weight, they are increasing their chances of getting pregnant.

PCOS is known to be one of the leading causes of infertility. In a study done in India, obese women suffering from PCOS were made to exercise rigorously. This exercise regimen actually cured them from PCOS without any other medical treatment, thereby reducing their chances of getting infertile.

However, the weight loss regimen is introduced gradually. The women were only allowed to lose just a maximum of 2.5 kg. in one month. Drastic weight loss therapies may actually be more detrimental than helpful. This study only goes to show that simple lifestyle modifications can cure infertility. Although further studies are still needed in order to validate this study’s claims, there is no harm in trying to modify one’s lifestyle before trying more complicated treatments.
