Can We Talk About Sex?

Fertility and Sex are related, even if we don’t talk about them much in the same sentence.

In two recent Harris Interactive surveys conducted by ARHP and HealthyWomen, 70% of women reported having a sexual health issue, but only 11% of health care providers reported feeling very or extremely confident in providing appropriate care for patients experiencing symptoms of sexual dysfunction. Yikes! Your doc may not know accurate info about sex, or feel comfortable talking about it with you.

If that’s the case, consider changing docs, or at the very least, becoming an expert yourself.

Check out The Sex and a Healthier You Web site, offering patients positive sexual health messages and accurate information on sexual function. They even offer a free monthly newsletter.

If you really want to dig a little deeper, the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals has a helpful website which features current research, headlines, clinical publications, and patient resources.

And for even more evidence-based, peer-reviewed sexuality materials, The Curricula Organizer for Reproductive Health Education (CORE) is an open access, cutting edge tool for building scientific presentations on the full spectrum of reproductive health topics. Their site includes 519 slides, 86 handouts, and 13 full presentations.
