“Budgeting For Infertility” Wins Dubious Honor

“Budgeting for Infertility: Bringing Home Baby Without Breaking the Bank,” the book, I co-authored with Evelina Sterling, PhD last year just received the honor of being placed on the "Strange Title List." I guess it could be worse - at least we beat "Peek a Poo: What's in Your Diaper?" and "Bondage for Beginners."

I guess I never considered it an odd title. Some folks in the infertility community are weighing in:
“This is what you are to think: The reviewer is an idiot who has never suffered with the emotional, physical, or financial pressures associated with the challenge of infertility. The title is excellent and appropriate,” suggests Mike Berkley, L.Ac.,
founder and director, of The Berkley Center for Reproductive Wellness.

Angie Ingalls, PCOS advocate agreed, saying, "It is only strange to those who don’t get it. But that’s a good thing. Maybe it will bring attention to it from those who haven’t been through it, thus maybe making more sensitive people.”

Even BlogHer chimed in: “This year's long list, for example includes: Budgeting for Infertility. People can't have kids. Fertility treatments cost a fortune and your insurance company probably won't pay for it. The adoption process isn't free either and there are dozens of scams aiming to fleece would be parents. Isn't it odd some people can't have kids and don't have huge stacks of money to throw around.”
