March is Endometriosis Awareness Month

This month is officially Endometriosis Awareness Month! It is estimated that between 10 percent and 20 percent of American women - or 5.5 million women and girls - of childbearing age have endometriosis. This makes endometriosis more common than AIDS and more common than cancer. Endometriosis is one of the three major causes of female infertility.

The average time from first symptoms to diagnosis is a staggering 10 years – often because women and teen girls ‘normalize’ the pain until it becomes overwhelming. It is frequently confused with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
